Our school has started a new programme called "Discovery Time" which is a programme aimed at developing key competencies through activity based, child directed learning.
So far this term, we have had 5 discovery time sessions which last between 45-60 minutes. We have mainly been focusing on sharing, taking turns, and listening to others. My class has done activities based around the following topics:
- Sleeping Beauty
- Space
- Camping
- Games
- Water play
During the first three sessions I had been taking photos of what the children were doing and then recording the things that they were saying. However, this was becoming time consuming and so I have begun to take video's of the children doing their activities and will be posting some of these on this blog. I am hoping that I will be able to look back at these video's and be able to see an improvement in the way the children speak and also the way that they communicate with each other (in terms of the key competencies).
